Plants always choose the light.
Houseplants are wonderful. They clean the air, purify the energy of a room, and brighten up the space they occupy. My grandma has three big, beautiful jasmine plants in her living room that fill the space with lush greenery and—a few times a year—the sweet aroma of jasmine flowers. She must have one of the greenest thumbs in the world; sometimes, I’m actually convinced she’s goddess of abundance incarnate. It’s incredible. She’s the reason that, about nine months ago, I decided to start nurturing some plants of my own. She really inspired me. Continue reading “Make like a Plant: On Choosing Joy”
How much do we want to struggle?
It’s comical really
that there is a
whatever we may call it
that invented everything
on earth and in the heavens
in absolute flawlessness
yet we struggle so tragically
to trust that very same
whatever we may call it
to handle the minuscule
troubles of our
instead remaining convinced
we can do it better on our own. Continue reading “The Importance of Surrender”
It is through our aloneness that we are able to recharge.
There are many people in this world who feel uncomfortable with being alone. It’s understandable to a point—most people enjoy the sense of community and belonging that comes from spending time with friends and loved ones who care about them. However, finding joy in solitude is really important. It’s during our moments of aloneness that we have the opportunity to go inward, figure out who we are, think about what we want, and connect with our creativity. “the closest thing to god on this earth is a woman’s body”
when my mother was pregnant
with her second child I was four
i pointed at her swollen belly confused at how
my mother had gotten so big in such little time
my father scooped me in his tree trunk arms and
said the closest thing to god on this earth
is a woman’s body it’s where life comes from
and to have a grown man tell me something
so powerful at such a young age
changed me to see the entire universe
rested at my mother’s feet

Feel them, move through them, and then move forward and let them go.
If you got a chance to look at the article I published this past Monday, “On Healing and Embracing Negative Emotions,” you read about the importance of allowing ourselves to authentically feel the emotions that have traditionally been viewed as “negative,” such as sadness, anger, grief, and resentment—particularly when embarking on a journey of healing. By doing so, we are able to move through our difficult feelings rather than away from them, and ultimately, we return to a place of joy and wholeness. Feel your feelings. All of them.
Hello, my lovelies!
I hope everyone in the U.S. had a wonderful Thanksgiving and that you were able to enjoy every moment with your families. My weekend was certainly fun- and family-filled, and I’m really grateful that all my family members are so close to each other and healthy. My thoughts go out to those who are grieving the loss of loved ones right now—especially since the holiday season is upon us. May you have the strength to move through your days, may you be comforted during times of heartache, and may you be surrounded by infinite love. The seventh piece in the Chakra Series
It’s hard to believe we’ve already reached the last piece in this Chakra Series! It’s been a lot of fun working on it, and I’m so grateful to those of you who have taken the time to read the articles and given me some feedback on them. Hopefully you’ve been able to get something out of this series, and hopefully you’ve been able to open up your chakras to embark on a path to living a life of balance, connection, and authenticity. If you like what you read on this blog and haven’t had the chance to subscribe by email yet, please do so! If you’re reading this on your phone, the link is all the way at the bottom, and if you’re on your computer, it’s in the right sidebar. It says, “Follow Me!” All it does is send my new posts directly to you when they’re first published, which happens twice a week. It’s a great way to stay up-to-date on everything without being spammed. Continue reading “The Crown Chakra: Signs of Blockage and How to Heal”
