The Importance of Loving and Taking Care of Ourselves

Part 1 of the Self-Love Series

Hi!

Hopefully everyone has had a wonderful week. This has been my last week of winter break; classes start again tomorrow, and I could not be more ready. I’ve changed my major from education to English literature, and just reading through my syllabi online was getting me so excited! I can tell the next couple months are going to be amazing, and I hope they’ll be amazing for you, too. Continue reading “The Importance of Loving and Taking Care of Ourselves”

Sonia’s Favorite Practice for Ushering in the New Year

…and I slowly and ceremoniously burn them.

Hello, and Happy New Year!

Does anybody else feel like 2017 flew by? Sometimes I feel like the older I get, the more quickly the years pass. It’s crazy. I’ve always really liked New Year, though. I love how everyone gets together and celebrates the leaving behind of the past and the raw possibility of the future. It’s so much fun, and honestly, it has always felt pretty spiritual to me. Make like a Plant: On Choosing Joy

Plants always choose the light.

Houseplants are wonderful. They clean the air, purify the energy of a room, and brighten up the space they occupy. My grandma has three big, beautiful jasmine plants in her living room that fill the space with lush greenery and—a few times a year—the sweet aroma of jasmine flowers. She must have one of the greenest thumbs in the world; sometimes, I’m actually convinced she’s goddess of abundance incarnate. It’s incredible. She’s the reason that, about nine months ago, I decided to start nurturing some plants of my own. She really inspired me. Continue reading “Make like a Plant: On Choosing Joy”

The Importance of Surrender

How much do we want to struggle?

It’s comical really

that there is a

god

creator

universal energy

whatever we may call it

that invented everything

on earth and in the heavens

in absolute flawlessness

yet we struggle so tragically

to trust that very same

god

creator

universal energy

whatever we may call it

to handle the minuscule

troubles of our

meager lives—

instead remaining convinced

that somehow

we can do it better on our own. Continue reading “The Importance of Surrender”

On Embracing Solitude

It is through our aloneness that we are able to recharge.

There are many people in this world who feel uncomfortable with being alone. It’s understandable to a point—most people enjoy the sense of community and belonging that comes from spending time with friends and loved ones who care about them. However, finding joy in solitude is really important. It’s during our moments of aloneness that we have the opportunity to go inward, figure out who we are, think about what we want, and connect with our creativity. The Divine Feminine: Unleashing the Goddess Within

“the closest thing to god on this earth is a woman’s body”

when my mother was pregnant

with her second child I was four

i pointed at her swollen belly confused at how

my mother had gotten so big in such little time

my father scooped me in his tree trunk arms and

said the closest thing to god on this earth

is a woman’s body it’s where life comes from

and to have a grown man tell me something

so powerful at such a young age

changed me to see the entire universe

rested at my mother’s feet

–Rupi Kaur, milk and honey Continue reading “The Divine Feminine: Unleashing the Goddess Within”
